Redeeming the Times, for the Days Are Evil

In Ephesians 5:15–17 (NKJV), the Apostle Paul issues one of the most urgent commands in all of Scripture: "See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is."
Read that again. The days are evil. Not were evil. Not will be evil. Are evil! present tense. And if the days were evil in Paul's time, how much more now, in this hour when we stand at what many believe to be the very threshold of eternity?
Beloved, we are living in the last days. The signs are everywhere; not hidden, not obscure, but open and unmistakable for any believer who is watching and walking in the Spirit. The return of the Lord is not a distant theological concept. It is an imminent reality. And our adversary, the devil, the god of this age who has blinded the minds of those who do not believe (2 Corinthians 4:4) is fully aware of this. Revelation 12:12 gives us a chilling insight into his urgency: he has "great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time." He is not tired. He is not slowing down. He is working tirelessly; strategically, relentlessly to paralyze, distract, deceive, and destroy the work of God in the life of every believer.
This is why redeeming the time is not optional. Every opportunity, every resource, every gift God has placed in your hands has been given for a purpose - His purpose. To advance His kingdom. To be light in the darkness. To make disciples who make disciples. But you cannot fulfill a purpose you do not understand. And you cannot understand God's purpose from a sermon alone. You must know His Word for yourself.
The church has been sleeping while the enemy has been working. It is time in fact, far past time , for the Body of Christ to awaken from spiritual slumber. We cannot afford to drift through these days casually, carelessly, or complacently. The hour demands sobriety. It demands vigilance. It demands believers who walk circumspectly - with eyes wide open, hearts fully surrendered, and spirits tuned to the voice of the Holy Spirit. To walk circumspectly means to walk with precision, intentionality, and spiritual awareness. It means refusing to be swept away by the distractions, deceptions, and distortions of this age. It means recognizing that every moment carries eternal weight.
We must be spiritually alert; awake to the schemes of the enemy, aware of the times and seasons, and attentive to the leading of the Spirit. The world is not getting lighter; it is growing darker. But darkness has never intimidated God, and it should not intimidate His people. Instead, it should stir us to action. It should compel us to reclaim every moment, every conversation, every platform, every relationship, and every resource for the glory of God. Nothing in your life is random. Nothing is wasted. Everything God has placed in your hands is meant to advance His kingdom. The days are evil, yes…but we are children of the light, and light does not retreat from darkness; it confronts it, exposes it, and overcomes it.
So walk wisely. Guard your heart. Steward your time. Be vigilant. Be discerning. Be steadfast. And above all, seek to understand the will of the Lord in this hour. You were not placed in this generation by accident beloved. God has entrusted you with this moment in history. Redeem it. Use it. Live it for His glory.
