This is a message for every christian woman seeking deeper growth and reflection.

In my chemistry class, a prerequisite for the program I'm currently studying, we conducted an experiment to analyze the copper content of a penny. When hydrochloric acid interacts with a modern penny, something unexpected occurs. Initially, the penny appears solid—shiny, durable, and entirely copper. However, as the reaction progresses, it becomes clear that the copper is just a thin layer. Underneath, there's a core of reactive zinc that dissolves, leaving only a hollow copper shell. It's quite fascinating!

Science provides deep examples of spiritual truths, and this reaction is no different. It reflects how life frequently reveals what is hidden beneath our refined surfaces.

The Heart Beneath the Surface

Scripture repeatedly reminds us that God isn’t impressed by surface-level appearances. Where we see achievement, charisma, or beauty, He sees heart, motive, and truth.

“People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” – 1 Samuel 16:7

David wasn’t even invited to the lineup of potential kings. Yet he was chosen because God saw something deeper—a heart aligned with heaven.

In the same way, we may walk through life with faith, titles, or achievements that sparkle like copper in the light. But trials—like acid—reveal our foundation. If our core is rooted in pride, fear, or performance, it will not stand.

When Refining Moments Arrive

Life doesn’t just test us once. Seasons of disappointment, correction, failure, or grief function as spiritual acid: stripping away everything we’ve built to protect our image. These moments don't destroy us—they reveal us.

“The crucible is for silver, and the furnace is for gold, but the LORD tests hearts.” – Proverbs 17:3. “Consider it pure joy… whenever you face trials… because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” – James 1:2–3

Dear friend, pressure doesn't determine our worth—it reveals our true nature. If our lives is based on superficial identity or image management, we will experience a downfall. However, if our foundation is strengthened in Christ, what endures will be resilient and beautiful.

Choosing Depth Over Polish

Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for their gleaming religious appearance—but beneath, they were spiritually corroded.

“You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of bones and everything unclean.” – Matthew 23:27

The good news? God's refining doesn’t shame—it transforms. When He exposes the layers we’ve hidden behind, it’s always with the goal of healing. We are not meant to live as hollow shells. Through surrender, truth, and grace, our inner life can be strong and whole.

🙏🏾 A Prayer to Invite Refining

“Search me, God, and know my heart… See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” – Psalm 139:23–24

Let this be our invitation to God: not to polish our appearance, but to purify our core.

Takeaway for Your Journey

  • Who am I beneath what others see?

  • When tested, what dissolves—and what remains?

  • Am I building with temporary coatings or eternal truth?

In conclusion, the journey of allowing God to strip away the false is one of profound significance. It leads us to a deeper understanding of ourselves and our relationship with the the Lord. As we embrace this process, we find ourselves transformed—no longer living in the shadows of insecurity or doubt, but stepping into the light of our true identity. We become women who are refined, resilient, and real, ready to fulfill our purpose and share our light with the world. This transformation is not just a personal journey; it is a testament to the power of God’s love and grace in our lives.
